The S-Band antenna was designed for line of sight voice or data communication circuits. The antenna is vertically polarized and has a frequency range of 2025-2400 MHz with a 100 watt average power capacity. The antenna was specifically designed to optimize maximum radiated power above the horizon by including up-tilt and null fill. Null fill above the horizon ensures the radiated power remains virtually constant allowing for uninterrupted communication between the antenna and the aircraft, while the antenna’s gain accommodates medium range communication circuits. The antenna’s robust design is suitable for extreme environmental conditions.

Applications:

Glide Slope Antennas are used to provide vertical guidance to aircraft during approach and landing of an aircraft under instrument fight rules.

Features:

The Glides Slope Antennas are designed to withstand 100 mph wind, 1⁄2-inch radial ice, temperature range of -50oC to 70°C, and 100% humidity. All elements are equipped with de-icing heaters and thermostats.

Characteristics:

Glide Slope Antennas operate on a frequency of 328 to 336 MHz on a nominal impedance of 50 Ohms and power up to 50 watts. A null reference glide slope antenna system is fed by two transmitters, one on the carrier frequency and the other on sideband frequency. A capture effect glide slope antenna is fed by an additional clearance transmitter. (Refer to FAA Handbook 6750.6 for more information on null reference and capture effect systems.) A null reference glide slope antenna system consists of two antenna arrays, an external RF network, and a 40-foot tower equipped with safety climbing rail and obstruction marking and lighting. A capture effect system is a null reference system plus an additional antenna array, 20 feet of tower and a clearance cancellation bridge.

DUAL-LIGHTWEIGHT SHIPBOARD TILT UNIT
OA-9243A (V) 4 S/R

The STU-4series shipboard tilt units are modular electromechanical systems for lowering and raising dual shipboard communication antennas. These units and the single antenna variants (STU-3 series) have over 90% commonality of components.

The STU-4LW uses a 1-horsepower brakemotor. The electrical controls are located in the pedestal for local operation, while an optional remote control will operate up to three units at a maximum of 1,200 feet away. A manually operated handcrank provides emergency control in the event of electrical failure. Tilt angles may be preset to any angle from vertical through 115°, and powered rotation from vertical to 90 seconds. All units may be tilted inboard to expedite antenna maintenance, removal or installation. Converting from dual to single antenna configuration is accomplished by installing another support arm. Provisions for mounting antenna tuners and couplers are available in rotating elements, permitting antenna feedwire lengths to be kept to a minimum. Compression pads are activated at vertical and horizontal limits to reduce shock and vibration loads from being transmitted to the rotating elements. Cam operated limit switches control the vertical and horizontal positioning. An overtravel limit switch removes all power to the drive motor in the event of limit switch failure. The units are designed to with stand loads of 1,000,000in/lb, and are normally used where green water loads are a major concern. Manual crank versions are also available.
