Typical broadband frequencies are 200-6000 MHz (0.2-6.0 GHz), 30-512 MHz, 500-6,000 MHz (0.5-6.0 GHz), and 100-520 MHz. Surveillance: a single broadband antenna permits the scanning and intercepting of signals from a very wide range of communications frequencies including all UHF/VHF, cellular and Wi-Fi bands
Jamming: when combined with a powerful transmitter, a broadband antenna can create a window of interference that degrades or eliminates wireless communications within that area. Such interference can be used to disrupt the communications systems or wirelessly activated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) of opposing forces.
Further a number of newer technologies utilizing broadband antennas are seeing strong interest, including:
- Software Defined Radios (SDR)
- 5G communications systems
- Ultra-wideband radio systems
